Reading Buddies
Drop in. Free. Children in grades K-2 are invited to work on their reading practice with members of the Teen Advisory Board. Children meet with their teen Reading Buddies with support from Ms. Cheryl and Jess. Teen Buddies listen to children read aloud then chat with them to practice comprehension. Teens assist but are not trained to teach reading or select books for the child. Parents should send their child with books geared to their child's reading ability and frustration tolerance or help them pick out an appropriate book at the library. We will have a bookcart full of early readers as well as several phonics games. Children waiting for their turn to read aloud can play phonics games and enjoy other literacy activities with our teen volunteers.
Join us in the children's picture book area most Tuesdays October 8 - April. We don't meet during Mason School Breaks or the week before their winter break.
Parents are expected to remain in the library during Reading Buddies.
