Learning Buddies
Drop in. Free. Children preK- Grade 4 are invited to play learning games and practice reading with members of the Teen Advisory Board. Children meet with their teen Learning Buddies with support from Ms. Cheryl and Jess. Teen Buddies listen to children read aloud then chat with them to practice comprehension. Teens assist but are not trained to teach reading or select books for the child. Parents should send their child with books geared to their child's reading ability and frustration tolerance or help them pick out an appropriate book at the library. We will have a bookcart full of early readers as well as several phonics games. Children also play phonics and other learning games and enjoy other learning activities with our teen volunteers.
Join us in the children's picture book area most Tuesdays, except May and August. We don't meet during Mason School Breaks or the week before their winter break.
Parents are expected to remain in the library during Reading Buddies.
